According to Hindu scriptures, Karva Chauth is celebrated with great significance. The Day and date of the Karwa Chauth Celebration is 1st November 2023, Wednesday. The most popular story behind the Karwa Chauth celebration is

Karwa Chauth: Veeravati

This is the most popular story behind the Karwa Chauth celebration. It occurred a long time ago. There was one beautiful princess named Veeravati. She was married to a king. He has five brothers who love him very much. On the day of Karva Chauth, after marriage, she came to her father's house. She kept the fast for her husband. the queen was too delicate and couldn't stand the rigours of fasting. By evening, Veeravati was too weak and fainted. All the brothers couldn't stand the plight of their sister and decided to end her fast. They made a fire at the nearby hill and asked their sister to see the glow of the moon. They assured her that it was the moonlight and since the moon had risen, she could break her fast." While she was having food she got a piece of bad news about her husband That he was no more. Veeravati was heartbroken and rushed to her husband's palace. On the way, she met Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. She narrated her story to the goddess Parvati. Then Parvati informed her that the king had died because the queen had broken her fast by watching a false moon. However, when the queen asked her for forgiveness, the goddess granted her the boon that the king would be revived but would be ill." When she reached home, she saw that her husband was unconscious and there were many needles pricks all over his body. Rani removes a needle every day from his husband’s body. By the next Karwa Chauth, only one needle was left to remove. On the day of Karwa Chauth, the queen kept Strict fast. When she went to the market to buy Karwa and Pooja's belongings, her maid removed the last needle from his husband’s body. asked her husband to listen to her. As soon as the king woke up from sleep, he mistook the maid for his queen. When she returned from the market. She was treated as a maid. All the time she recites a song " Roli ki Goli ho gayi... Goli ki Roli ho gayi " (the queen has turned into a maid and the maid has turned into a queen)." One day, when the king was going to some other kingdom, he asked the real queen (now turned maid) if she wanted anything. The queen asked for a pair of identical dolls. When the king asked her why she sang this song every day, she told him the whole story. The king repented and restored the queen to her royal status. It was only the queen's devotion and her faith that won her husband's affection and the blessings of Goddess Parvati." The Day and date of the Karwa Chauth Celebration is 1st November 2023, Wednesday.

Karwa Chauth: Goddess Karwa

This is another story behind the Karwa Chauth. The story of Karva Chauth is that Goddess Karva lived with her husband near the Tungabhadra river. One day when Karva's husband went to take a bath in the river, a crocodile caught hold of his leg and started pulling him into the river. Seeing death approaching, Karwa's husband started calling Karwa. Karwa ran to the river and saw the crocodile taking her husband to his death. Karva immediately took a raw thread and tied the crocodile to a tree. Due to Karva's chastity, the crocodile was tied in such a way that he was unable to move away. The lives of both Karva's husband and the crocodile were in danger. Karva called out to Yamraj and asked him to give life to her husband and to give the death penalty to the crocodile. Yamraj said I cannot do this because the crocodile's life is still left and your husband's life is over. Angered, Karva said to Yamraj, if you do not do this, I will curse you. Frightened by the curse of Sati, Yamraj immediately sent the crocodile to Yamlok and gave life to Karva's husband. Therefore, during the fast of Karva Chauth, married women pray to Karva Mata that, O Karva Mata, just as you brought back your husband from the jaws of death, protect my husband too. The Day and date of the Karwa Chauth Celebration is 1st November 2023, Wednesday.

Karwa Chauth: Draupadi and Pandvas

This is another story behind Karwa Chauth. Once Pandu's son Arjun went to a mountain named Nilgiri to do penance. Draupadi was very upset. When there was no news of him, she called Lord Krishna and expressed his concern. Lord Krishna said- “Sister, once a similar question was asked by Mata Parvati to Shankarji. Then Shankarji told Mata Parvati about the fast of Karva Chauth. By observing this fast, women can protect their husbands from every upcoming crisis, just like a Brahmin did. In ancient times there was a Brahmin. He had four sons and a virtuous girl. Once the girl was in her parents' home, she observed the fast of Karva Chauth. She observed the fast methodically and didn't eat or drink anything the whole day, but her four brothers were worried that sister might be thirsty, or hungry, but sister would drink water only after moonrise. The brothers could not resist, they showed their sister a fake moonrise as the evening approached and asked their sister to break the fast, her husband died as soon as she took the food. She became sad, heartbroken and started wailing, just then Queen Indrani was passing from there. She could not see her pain and sorrow. The Brahmin girl held his feet and asked the reason for his sorrow, then Indrani told - You broke the fast of Karva Chauth without seeing the moon, hence you got this pain. your husband will be alive if you observe the fast of Chauth regularly throughout the year. When she observed Chauth fast as per Indrani's advice, she became fortunate again. Therefore, every woman should observe this fast for the long life of her husband. Draupadi observed this fast and Arjun returned safely after getting the desired result. Since then, Hindu women observed Karwa Chauth's fast for their eternal marriage.
